Kaaki Sattai is an upcoming Tamil action masala movie which was directed by R. S. Durai Senthilkumar and produced by Dhanush, collaborating for a second venture after Ethir Neechal (2013). This movie features Sivakarthikeyan and Sri Divya in the leading roles. The film’s music was composed by young music director Anirudh Ravichander.
Soon after the release and success of movie Ethir Neechal (2013), the team that movie including producer Dhanush, and director Senthilkumar, music was composed by Anirudh Ravichander and leading actor Sivakarthikeyan announced that they would collaborate again for another venture. Pattukkottai Prabakar was selected to write the screenplay of this movie . This movie was initially titled Taana, but was changed to Kaaki Sattai after Kamal Haasan’s 1985 movie . In October 2014, the producer of Kamal Haasan’s Kaakki Sattai were approached to obtain the rights for the title.

This album was launched at Radio Mirchi 98.3 on 12th December 2014, with the team opting to release the album to coincide with actor superstar Rajinikanth’s birthday. This album received positive reviews from critics, and stating “Anirudh Ravichander plays to his potential to continue his winning streak”. Meanwhile Behindwoods rated the album at 2.75/5 stating the “expectation from Anirudh Ravichander is unfortunately way higher”.SIFY rating the album 3.5/5 and stated “Yet another peppy album by Anirudh Ravichander!”.

Principal photography began with a pujja ceremony held on 6 March 2014. The first schedule of this movie shoot began in March 2014 at a temple in Pammal near Pallavaram. By April 2014, this film was completed 10 days shooting in an apartment in Mugappair and ‘Semmozhi Poonga’ in Cathedral Road, Chennai,India. The Movie team continued shooting in and around Chennai. By June 2014, 40% of this film was completed and the second schedule of this film began in Kerala. A few sequences were canned at Binny Mills. In July 2014, Sivakarthikeyan confirmed that 60% of this film was completed and the team would go to Norway to can 2 song sequences there. When asked about whether the movie would undergo a name change, he clarified that the production unit was thinking of various possibilities and that if a suitable title did not come up, Taana would be the title used.
